HONOLULU – The Chaminade University softball team dropped both games in their second day of the University of Hawai'i Fall Preseason Classic on Friday, falling to Fullerton College, 2-1, in eight innings in the first game, then 7-3 in the second to host University of Hawai'i.
Kobe Brown (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) and
Larchelle Tuifao (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) had base hits in both games as the Silverswords fell to 1-2 in the tournament.
FC 2, CUH 1 (8 innings)
The Silverswords had seven hits in the contest with
Jaeda Cabunoc (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Roosevelt) leading the way with two.
The 'Swords' lone run came in the bottom of the fourth on a
Summer Buck (Honolulu/Kaiser) sacrifice fly.
After the Hornets scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, Chaminade had a chance to bring home the tying run with a runner on third with one out. However, Fullerton managed to wiggle out of the jam to claim the win.
Kamryn Lopez (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial) tossed all eight innings in taking the loss.
UH 7, CUH 3
Less than 24 hours after opening the tournament with a stunning eight-inning upset over their Division I cousins, the 'Swords had the makings of repeating the feat.
Bailey Jacobsen (Buena Park, Calif./Cypress), who had the tying three-run homer on Friday to send the game into extra innings, again went opposite field, this time doubling in the game's first run.
Brown then had an infield hit followed by an error which brought in two more runs and a 3-0 Chaminade lead.
However, UH plated the next seven runs unanswered to win Thursday's rematch.
Bailey Benson (Cheney, Wash./Gonzaga Preparatory) took the loss for the 'Swords.
The tournament concludes on Sunday with the Silverswords facing Fullerton in the opening game and UH in the finale.
