HONOLULU – Fans will get a preview of the 2024 Chaminade University softball team which opens their fall exhibition season in the University of Hawai'i Fall Preseason Classic at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium this weekend.
The Silverswords, who are coming off their most successful season in a decade a year ago, return a veteran-laden roster including all nine who started at least 24 games in 2023.
Chaminade will face host and Division I Hawai'i in Thursday's 6 p.m. tournament opener. They will also face Fullerton College during Friday's and Sunday's action.
All six 'Swords who earned All-Pacific West Conference honors last season are back including all-conference and all-West Region catcher
Keaolani Takemura-Brehme (Pearl City, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mid-Pacific Institute) who shattered the school record for most triples in a season with 11 which also was second in NCAA Division II.
They also return pitchers
Bailey Benson (Cheney, Wash./Gonzaga Preparatory) and
Ashley Ogata (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani), both of whom are anticipated becoming the staff aces in the spring.
The team will also get a look at three freshman who look to help ease the significant losses of pitcher
Taylor Genera, second baseman
Cheyne Obara and outfielder
Kieren Lopez.
All games at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium are free. UH does charge for on-campus parking.
