HONOLULU – Chaminade University softball head coach
Kent Yamaguchi announced Wednesday the first three National Letters of Intent signees who will join the 2025 team.
Alexis Lopez
Alexis Lopez is an outfielder and shortstop for Redwood High School in Visalia, California, where she has played on the Rangers' varsity team for the last two years. A 4.0 student, Lopez earned East Yosemite League honorable mention honors last year and was the junior varsity most valuable player. She also is a three-time scholar-athlete award winner. Her club team is the Batbusters.
Taneialee Simanu
Taneialee Simanu is from Mililani High School in Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i where she is a corner infielder and outfielder and has been a member of the Trojans' varsity squad for the past two years. She has helped Mililani, a softball power in the state, reach the last two Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Division I Championship Tournaments.
Melinda Smith
Melinda "Mimi" Smith attends Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, California, where she plays second base and the outfield. Smith has earned two academic letters and four scholar-athlete awards.
The signings of Lopez, Simanu and Smith will help to offset the departures of this year's six seniors, all of whom started the past two seasons. The 2024 Silverswords return all but one starter (second baseman
Cheyne Obara), one pitcher (
Taylor Genera) and a reserve outfielder (
Kieren Lopez). The upcoming schedule will be released next week.
