IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University catcher/third baseman
Keaolani Takemura (Pearl City, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mid-Pacific Institute) was named Monday as the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week.
The junior hit .571 (13-of-22) during the week with three runs and five RBI with a double and two triples. Takemura hit .600 (9-of-15) with a run and all five runs driven in during the four-game series against Azusa Pacific, the Silverswords' first-ever four-game series split against a PacWest Southern California opponent. During the series, she had a streak of hits in seven consecutive at-bats to establish a new school record.
Although her at-bat streak ended in Friday's opening game against Baldwin Wallace, Takemura began a new hits streak in her final four plate appearances against the Yellowjackets. In her last four games, she is hitting a blistering .786 (11-of-14) and raised her batting average to .411 on the season, the second-best in the conference. She is also carrying an eight-game hitting streak entering this Wednesday's non-conference series against Emporia State.
Dominican's Shelby Keltner was named the PacWest Pitcher of the Week. Hawai'i Pacific University was the Team of the Week.
