Women’s Volleyball to Make Summer Japan Tour

5/17/2023 1:06:00 PM

HONOLULU – The two-time defending Pacific West Conference champion Chaminade University women's volleyball team will be embarking on an August tour of Japan, a first for the program.

During their six-day tour which will be in Osaka, the Silverswords will be competing against other universities including Senri Kinran University, Kansai University and Sonoda University. It will also be a cultural opportunity for the team, particularly to learn about the history of Japan and how it helped to shape Hawai'i culture.

The Silverswords have a current team member from Japan in senior libero Nanna Inoue who is originally from Tokyo but attended King Kekaulike High School on Maui.

The team is also involved in fundraising to help with expenses associated with the travel. Individuals wanting to assist can do so at this link.

NCAA member institutions are allowed to make overseas foreign trips once every four years and are allowed up to 10 extra practice days prior to departure.

"We are just grateful to have the opportunity to go on this trip and take advantage of this extra training before the season officially starts," head coach Kahala Kabalis Hoke said. "This will be a great team bonding and preseason kickoff as we look to defend another conference championship."
