IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team is predicted to win its third straight Pacific West Conference title in the conference coaches poll released Wednesday.
The Silverswords received 10 of the 11 first-place votes for 120 points. Point Loma is projected second with 102 followed by Fresno Pacific with 89. Azusa Pacific received the other first-place vote.
Meanwhile
Greta Corti and
Ajack Malual were selected by the coaches to the PacWest Preseason Team while
Hula Crisostomo was chosen as the preseason Libero of the Year. Corti is a two-time All-PacWest selection at outside hitter while Malual earned second team honors last season. Crisostomo, a Moanalua High School alumna and a graduate transfer from the University of Texas at El Paso, was one of the top liberos in Conference USA last year.
Azusa Pacific's Annaka Jorgenson was the coaches selection as Player of the Year while Setter of the Year is Catie Speas of Fresno Pacific.
Chaminade, which sits just outside the first AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll at No. 26 released Tuesday, opens the season Thursday at the Hawai'i-Alaska Challenge in Fairbanks, Alaska. The 'Swords are joined by the University of Hawai'i Hilo as they'll meet host Alaska and nationally-ranked Alaska Anchorage twice over the weekend.
The Silverswords are seeking to become the first PacWest team to win three straight conference titles since BYU-Hawai'i accomplished the feat with five straight from 2010 to 2014.
