HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's and women's cross country teams hosted their own meet Saturday, competing at the Chaminade Invitational at Kapiolani Park.
Mason Stewart (Uniontown, Pa./Uniontown) became the first Silversword male in nearly five years to earn medalist honors, winning the men's 5-kilometer race in 17 minutes and 7.3 seconds, the second-fastest 5-k course time in Invitational history. Stewart out-paced Hawai'i Pacific University's Tyler Stoker by two seconds.
Beau Larsen was the last 'Sword to enjoy a first-place finish when he captured the Hawai'i Hilo Invitational in September 2018.
Peter Jan Ramos (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu) finished fourth overall at 17:51.8 as the men's squad finished with 34 points while HPU won the team title with 23 points.
Nick Lopez (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) timed at 18:37.7 followed by
Lennon Lindholm (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) at 21:16.6 and
Kaden Graves (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) at 21:37.2, all of whom were making their debuts with the team.
Conor McMahon (Pacific, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) rounded out the Silversword men at 24:05.0.
In the women's 5-k,
Maria Steinke (Columbus, Ohio/University of Dayton/Bexley HS) finished fourth overall at 20:17.0 followed next by
Nikiji Dayse (Memphis, Tenn./Bartlett) at 20:25.4. Both are the two fastest Kapiolani Park course times by a CUH runner in Invitational history, both shattering Alena Albertson's previous team record of 21:00 set in 2019.
Zoe Lucas (Fremont, Calif./Washington) earned a top-10 finish, ending the course in 21:49.3,
The Silverswords finished second in the team results with 46 points. UH Manoa had the other five top-seven finishers to win the team title with 19 points. The Rainbow Wahine's Alexandra Zanon was the women's individual medalist with a time of 19:44.0.
Caitlin Bocobo (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani), competing in her final home race, completed the course in 22:10.1 while
Cassie Chong (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) was next at 22:32.3
Leila-Jayne Casison (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu) finished the course in 23:09.9 while
Jordyn Koki (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) logged a finishing time of 24:44.0
The Silverswords will get two weeks off then return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Hawai'i Hilo Invitational. The races get underway at 7 a.m. at the Naniloa Golf Course.
