Chaminade University cross country runners
Maria Steinke (Columbus, Ohio/University of Dayton/Bexley HS) and
Mason Stewart (Uniontown, Pa./Uniontown) are the Hawai'i Pacific Health Female and Male Silversword Athletes of the Week for competition between Sept. 11 and 17.
Steinke was the first Division II runner to cross the finish line at Saturday's 5-kilometer Chaminade Invitational at Kapiolani Park, crossing the tape at 20 minutes, 17.0 seconds, the fastest time by a Silversword runner on the course. The women's team finished second only to Division I Hawai'i Manoa in the team results.
Stewart earned medalist honors in the men's 5-k race, completing the course in 17:07.3, the second-fastest 5-k time in course history. He is the first Silversword men's runner to win a race in nearly five years.
