HONOLULU – Chaminade University baseball coach
Chad Konishi announced Friday his coaching staff for the coming 2024 season.
Longtime coach Keith Komeiji will be Konishi's top assistant and hitting coach while also working with the catchers. Komeiji spent nearly a decade as hitting coach with the University of Hawai'i Manoa from 2001-09 where the Rainbows were one of the Western Athletic Conference's top slugging teams, posting team batting averages of .297 in 2006, .305 in 2007, .288 in 2008 and .287 in 2010. All four are still among the highest averages by UH teams since 2000 with the 2010 squad capturing the WAC championship and earning a berth to the Tempe Regional in Tempe, Arizona.
Komeiji spent the past four seasons coaching at Kamehameha-Kapalama School in Honolulu, helping the Warriors capture their first state baseball title in 20 years. Komeiji is a Kaiser High School graduate and was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 1983 MLB Draft. He also played professionally in Italy after his time with organization.
Chester Wilson is assistant hitting coach and will oversee the corner infielders. Wilson is familiar with Kalepohaku, playing his high school ball at Saint Louis School where he was a standout performer with the Crusaders. He then played collegiately at Southern Utah University, playing at first base, outfield and designated hitter.
After graduating from Southern Utah, Wilson coached at Hawai'i Pacific University from 2019-21 then went to Moanalua High School where he was an assistant coach.
Randy Yamashiro will assist with the bullpen and is also the recruiting coordinator. Yamashiro was head coach at Maryknoll School where he led the Spartans to three Division II state championships. He was also a local scout for several Major League Baseball teams.
The Silverswords will begin their first full team practices next week. The 2024 schedule will be announced in October.
