Two members of the Chaminade University baseball team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

Infielder
Taylor Ayala (Bountiful, Utah/Salt Lake CC/Woods Cross HS) and pitcher
Brennen Panis (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Aiea) were recognized for success in the classroom.

Ayala, a Business Administration major, hit .275 in his first year in a Silverswords uniform, splitting his starts between third base and second base. The junior college transfer led the team with 30 runs scored and was a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen bases.

Panis, also a Business Administration major, made 12 starts on the mound for the 'Swords. The sophomore tossed 58 1/3 innings and earned his first career win in a 6-2 complete-game performance against Menlo College on March 15.

To be recognized on the Academic All-District team, candidates must be a sophomore both academically and athletically, have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 and have played in either 90 percent or have started in 66 percent of their team's contests. Pitchers need to have at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.

Institutions can nominate up to five candidates for Academic All-District honors.
