LEXINGTON, Ky. – After eight victories the past two weekends including three over opponents ranked in the preseason poll, the Chaminade University women's volleyball team is ranked 20th in the first regular season AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Monday.
The Silverswords (8-0), who were the first team in the 'others receiving votes' category in the preseason poll, received 309 points, 13 behind 19th-ranked Regis. They are also one of seven West Region squads in the first top-25 rankings.
No. 20 is also Chaminade's highest in the poll since September 2005 when they were 18th, the highest ranking ever for the program since they've been in Division II.
The Silverswords will wrap up non-conference action this weekend at the Cal Poly Pomona/Azusa Pacific Crossover which will be played at CPP's Kellogg Arena and APU's Felix Event Center. The 'Swords open Friday with two matches in Pomona against San Francisco State and Northwest Nazarene.
SFSU is 3-1 and coming off an upset of then-No. 22 Colorado School of Mines. NNU is 4-0 after winning all its matches in the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Invitational.
On Saturday, the Silverswords will conclude the Crossover against Cal State East Bay (2-2) in Azusa, California, then return home for the start of Pacific West Conference action on Thursday Sept. 14 at crosstown rival, Hawai'i Pacific University.
