WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – Thc Chaminade University men's and women's cross country teams on Saturday concluded their 2024 regular seasons at the Hawai'i Pacific University Invitational at the Hawai'i Country Club.
For the second time this season,
Peter Jan Ramos (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu) had a runner-up finish in the men's 8-kilometer race while in the women's 6-k race,
Nikiji Dayse (Memphis, Tenn./Bartlett) won her first career event.
The 'Swords men earned 39 points in the team standings, finishing second behind HPU's 19. Ramos, running for the final time on O'ahu, finished the hilly and challenging course in 29:22.9 with the Sharks' Tyler Stoker taking individual honors at 28:49.4. Ramos' fellow seniors,
Sebastian Castro (San Diego, Calif./Palomar College/Great Oak HS) and
Conor McMahon (Pacific, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) who were also competing for the final time on the island, recorded times of 38:57.0 and 38:57.6, respectively.
Anthony John Bergancia (Saipan, Northern Marianas Islands/Marianas) was Chaminade's second finisher at 35:15.7 while
Mac Zawistoski (Coto de Caza, Calif./JSerra Catholic) completed the course in 42:16.8 and
Jacob Mantiply (Temecula, Calif./University of Saint Katherine/Great Oak HS) at 46:58.9.
The 'Swords ladies wrapped their regular season with a second-place finish, tallying 37 points, just six behind team event champion, University of Hawai'i Hilo, which had 31.
Dayse took home her first career medalist honor, crossing the finish line in 23:48.3, setting a personal best 6-k time, despite the challenging course.
Maria Steinke (Columbus, Ohio/University of Dayton/Bexley HS) earned the runner-up title in a time of 23:52.8.
Cassie Chong (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) was Chaminade's No. 3 finisher at 27:49.8 followed by
Jordyn Koki (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) at 29:07.2.
Running in her final local race, senior
Leila-Jayne Casison (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu) finished the course with a time of 30:32.9.
Emily Cooper (Mount Desert Island, Maine/Mount Desert Island) and
Nicholas Gebbia (San Antonio, Texas/Lee) completed the Chaminade grouping with respective times of 34:58.0 and 40:21.6.
The Silverswords will next compete at the Pacific West Conference Championships at Great Park in Irvine, California, on Saturday, Oct. 26.
