IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Pacific West Conference Championships on Saturday at the Orange County Great Park on Saturday.
For the Silversword men,
Peter Jan Ramos (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu) placed 60th in the men's 8-kilometer race. For the women's,
Nikiji Dayse (Memphis, Tenn./Bartlett) finished 28th in the women's 6-k race.
The 'Swords men's team earned 303 points, finishing 26 points behind PacWest newcomer, Jessup University. Ramos finished with a time of 28:05.0, with the next CUH men's runner being
Anthony John Bergancia (Saipan, Northern Marianas Islands/Marianas) as he finished with a time of 31:56.6 coming in at the 72nd spot.
The other two seniors besides Ramos were
Conor McMahon (Pacific, Calif./Archbishop Riordan), who came in at 77th with a time of 33:58.4 and
Sebastian Castro (San Diego, Calif./Palomar College/Great Oak HS) who came in at 79th with a time of 38:35.3.
The rest of the 'Swords members were
Mac Zawistoski (Coto de Caza, Calif./JSerra Catholic) and
Jacob Mantiply (Temecula, Calif./University of Saint Katherine/Great Oak HS)
who finished with times of 39:12.4 and 43:14.1.
In the women's race, the 'Swords compiled 260 points to finish eight overall. Fellow Hawai'i schools, the University of Hawai'i Hilo and Hawai'i Pacific University, finished 10th and 11th, respectively, the Silverswords won the women's cross country portion of the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge.
Dayse set a personal best 6-k time at 22:31.0.
Maria Steinke (Columbus, Ohio/University of Dayton/Bexley HS) was right behind her, coming in 30th with a time of 22:34.1.
Leila-Jayne Casison (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu), competing in her final PacWest Championship race, finished in 83rd in a time of 27:48.1. The other 'Swords were
Cassie Chong (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) who came in at 71st with a time of 25:28.2,
Emily Cooper in at 86th at 28:47.4, and
Jordyn Koki (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) in 88th with a time of 29.15.3.
The Silverswords will now await word if they will participate in the NCAA West Regionals on Nov. 9 in Billings, Montana.
