HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team completed the second day of the University of Hawai'i BeachBows Tournament – also known as Senior Weekend by the hosts – at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on the campus of UH Manoa.
The Silverswords (3-8) took the loss to the No. 12 Rainbow Wahine (19-11) by a 5-0 count in the first ever meeting between the two programs whose campuses are less than a mile apart.
No. 4 pairings of
Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane) and
Grace Talpash (Temecula, Calif./University of Oklahoma/Great Oak HS) forced a three-set match against the UH pair of Riley Wagoner and Sabrina Hardisty. The Rainbow Wahine took the first set, 21-13, but the 'Swords fought back, clinching the Set 2 win with a score of 21-19. Hawai'i ended up capturing the match, taking the tiebreaker third set with a score of 15-8.
The No. 3 squad for the Silverswords of
Sophie Schilling (Berlin, Germany/Alaska/Schul- and Leistungsportszentrum Berlin HS) and
Elli Tsukano (Austin, Texas/James Bowie) took on Anna Maidment/Sydney Miller. Hawai'i secured the win in two sets, with Set 1 concluding with a score of 21-19 followed by the second set, 21-14.
The Rainbow Wahine also won Pairs 1, 2, and 5.
The Silverswords will face the University of Portland on Monday at Queen's Beach in Waikiki, starting at 8 a.m.
