HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team on Tuesday faced Hawai'i Pacific University in their fourth match-up this season.
Unlike the previous meeting between the two teams where the Sharks took two pairings, the Silverswords did not drop a match in their 5-0 win. Chaminade improved to 4-9 on the year with all four coming against their crosstown rivals. HPU fell to 0-5.
A three-set match took place between the No. 2 pairings of
Sophie Schilling (Berlin, Germany/Alaska/Schul- and Leistungsportszentrum Berlin HS) and
Elli Tsukano (Austin, Texas/James Bowie) and Lauren Harris and Marley Sandoval. Chaminade dominated Set 1, 21-9, before the Sharks rallied to win the second set, 21-15. The 'Swords then outlasted HPU, 15-12, to take their match.
Chaminade's No. 3 squad of
Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane) and
Grace Talpash (Temecula, Calif./University of Oklahoma/Great Oak HS) defeated the HPU duo of Kohana Fukuchi and Ella Schoene, 21-17, then held them off in the second set, 21-19.
The Nos. 1, 4, and 5 pairs all defeated the Sharks in their matches, allowing the 'Swords to take the match.
