KANEOHE, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University softball team was looking to be a part of history Saturday when they were scheduled to face Hawai'i Pacific University in their season finale.
However, in what has seemingly been a recurring theme at HPU over the years, rain from Friday evening into Saturday afternoon wiped out the doubleheader at Howard Okita Field. Because the games have no bearing on the Pacific West Conference standings, the twin bill will not be made up.
Saturday's contests were to have been the final games played at Okita Field which has been a staple of the Hawai'i Pacific softball program over the last three decades. The Sharks are expected to move to the Sand Island Softball Complex in 2025 as a part of their university's long-term strategic plan.
The Silverswords end the season at 15-21 overall and 10-15 in the PacWest while HPU ends at 9-31 and 5-21 in the conference.
Chaminade shortstop
Taryn Fujioka (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City) concludes the year leading the PacWest in batting average at .415 and is in line to become the first Silversword to win the conference's batting title. Biola's Alexa Medley (.373) and Hawai'i Hilo's Rayna White (.370) pose the biggest threats as both are participating in next week's PacWest Championship in San Rafael, California.
