Beach Volleyball Complete Season Sweep of HPU in Finale

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team ended their season Sunday with a 4-1 victory over Hawai'i Pacific University at Queen's Beach in Waikiki.
 
The victory secured a season sweep of the Sharks in the Silverswords' inaugural season, winning all seven meetings between the two fledgling programs.
 
Chaminade ended the season with a 7-9 mark while HPU, which is also a first-year beach program, finished its season at 0-8.
 
The No. 5 flight of Brooklyn Poling (Gilbert, Ariz./Western Carolina Univ./Perry HS) and Kendall Rios (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) pulled out a win in their first official match together, downing Ella Dotson and Kylie Komo, 21-15, 21-19.
 
Identical 21-13 finals in Flight 4 saw Kanoelehua Misipeka (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Liberty North (Kan.) and Delaney Poling (Gilbert, Arizona/Perry HS/Park University) defeat Alayna Grinstead and Sofia Cooper.
 
Mahala Ka'apuni (Hilo, Hawai'i/Alaska Anchorage/Hilo HS) and Nanna Inoue (Kula, Maui, Hawai'i/Tyler JC/King Kekaulike HS) defeated Kohana Fukuchi and Ella Schoene 21-12, 21-15 in Flight 2 while the No. 3 pairings of Elli Tsukano (Austin, Texas/James Bowie) and Malena Mihalik (Santa Fe, Argentina/San Eugenio) defeated Marley Sandoval and Lauren Harris, 21-15, 21-14.
 
No. 2 pairings of Mahala Ka'apuni (Hilo, Hawai'i/Alaska Anchorage/Hilo HS) and Nanna Inoue (Kula, Maui, Hawai'i/Tyler JC/King Kekaulike HS) defeated Kohana Fukuchi and Ella Schoene 21-12 and 21-15. While the No. 3 pairings of Elli Tsukano (Austin, Texas/James Bowie) and Malena Mihalik (Santa Fe, Argentina/San Eugenio) defeats Marley Sandoval & Lauren Harris with a score of 21-15 and 21-14.
 
A thrilling three-set match took place in the No. 1 flight with CUH's Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane) and Grace Talpash (Temecula, Calif./University of Oklahoma/Great Oak HS) against HPU's Kate Allan & Erika Markentin. The 'Swords dominated the first set 21-11, but the Sharks battled and secured the win in sets two and three with a score of 21-17 and 15-13.
 
Tsukano and Hula Crisostomo (Honolulu/Univ. of Texas El Paso/Moanalua HS) were seniors who were celebrated in their their last collegiate matches.
