Chaminade University softball student-athletes
Kobe Brown (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani),
Taryn Fujioka (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City),
Kailah Gates-Coyaso (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waianae),
Bailey Jacobsen (Buena Park, Calif./Cypress) and
Keaolani Takemura-Brehme (Pearl City, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mid-Pacific Institute) on Tuesday were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
Â
Brown, who was in the Master's program for Counseling Psychology this past academic term after receiving her Bachelor's in Psychology in spring 2023, completed her athletic eligibility by batting .259 with 14 RBI this past season. A mainstay at first base since her freshman year in 2020, Brown is considered one of the top defensive players in school history with a career-best .982 fielding percentage. It is her second CSC All-District honor.
Â
Fujioka put together one of the top seasons in program history. Not only was she the first Silversword to win the Pacific West Conference batting title at a .415 clip, the Business Administration major was also the first in team history named the conference's Player of the Year. The junior shortstop also led the PacWest in on-base percentage (.481), slugging percentage (.644), OPS (1.125) and triples (6) while scoring 25 runs and driving in 16 more.
Â
Gates-Coyaso, named to CSC Academic All-District a second time, concluded her playing career as the team's Swiss Army knife, playing every position on the field except pitcher and first base. After starting her career at primarily at catcher, the Business Administration major moved to wherever her defense was needed on the field in her sophomore and junior seasons before becoming the full-time second baseman in 2024. She wrapped up her final season in a CUH uniform by hitting .200 with 13 runs and, defensively, was responsible for turning 15 of the team's 21 double plays, which helped the 'Swords finish second nationally in twin killings at 0.58 per game. Like Brown, she was also a starter since her freshman year in 2020 and is on the CSC Academic All-District list for the second time.
Â
Jacobsen played in 30 games, getting 25 starts in right field, hitting .224 while driving in a career-high 10 this past season. The junior Elementary Education Major had five extra base hits including four doubles, both of which were also career highs.
Â
Takemura-Brehme earned her second CSC Academic All-District honor. The senior catcher concluded her standout career with a .336 campaign with 19 RBI and 20 runs and finished third in career RBI with 83, just seven shy of the school record, and fourth in hits with 151. The Psychology major was named to the CSC Academic All-America Third Team in 2023 and will look to become just the second Chaminade student-athlete to earn multiple Academic All-America awards.
Â
To be considered for the CSC Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, academically and athletically; have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50; and must compete in 90 percent of the games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, it is 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched.
Â
The Division II CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structures to assist with CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America program.
