7/3/2024 12:35:00 PM

LONG BEACH, Calif. – A record 145 Chaminade University student-athletes have been named to the Academic All-Pacific West Conference Teams, announced Wednesday by the conference.

Chaminade had 147 listed but two student-athletes qualified in multiple sports (Selena Buttery, women's basketball/women's tennis; Nick Lopez, men's cross country/men's soccer).

Baseball led the way with 30 student-athletes on the academic team, followed by men's and women's soccer which both had 22.

(Note: Even without baseball's numbers, Chaminade still would have set a new high with 115; the previous record was 109 set in 2021-22.)

Men's golf had the highest ratio with all eight eligible team members making the list, tied with island rivals University of Hawai'i Hilo and Hawai'i Pacific University for the most honorees in PacWest men's golf. For teams with 11 more members, women's basketball had the highest ratio with 93 percent (13 of 14 team members qualified).

Twenty-two Silverswords tallied perfect 4.00 GPAs.

A record 1,900 student-athletes in the PacWest were named to the all-academic team across the 15 sports the conference sponsors.

To be eligible for Academic All-PacWest honors, student-athletes must have attended two semesters at their current institution, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and competed in at least one competition or event during the 2023-24 year.
