CLEVELAND – A record 63 Chaminade University student-athletes were named to the 2023-24 Division 2 Athletic Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievement Awards.
There were actually 64 named but one student-athlete,
Selena Buttery, counted for both women's basketball and women's tennis. The number exceeded the previous mark of 54 set last year.
Utilizing a season-of-competition waiver for a fifth year of athletic eligibility due to COVID allowed
Isaac Amaral-Artharee (men's basketball),
Kobe Brown (softball) and
Kailah Gates-Coyaso (softball) to earn the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award for the fourth time.
Three-time honorees include
Greta Corti (women's volleyball),
Gracie Knowd (women's soccer),
Chasity McKean (softball),
Emma Morris (women's basketball),
Peter Jan Ramos (men's cross country),
Keaolani Takemura-Brehme (softball) and
Brandon Yasue (men's soccer).
There were 19,774 D-II student-athletes across the nation recognized with the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, the highest in the 17-year history of the program.. The Pacific West Conference had 1,124 student-athletes named, the third highest among all Division II conferences.
To be recognized for the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, the school's athletics director must be a dues-paying member of the D2 ADA. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale, have attended a minimum two years or four semesters of college work; and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her academic year.
