LEXINGTON, Ky. – Chaminade University outside hitter
Letizia Cammillucci (Padova, Italy/San Jose State/Liceo Amedeo di Savoia Duca D'asosta HS) was named Tuesday the AVCA Division II Player of the Week.
The graduate transfer had a stellar performance at the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver last weekend, averaging 4.07 kills and 2.53 digs per set to earn Most Valuable Player honors in what is largely considered the toughest preseason non-conference tournament in Division II.
In Saturday's Gold Bracket semifinal, Cammillucci put down 20 kills, tying her career high set in Nov. 2021 as a San Jose State Spartan, while hitting .378 with seven digs in their four-set win over current No. 2 and host MSU Denver. A few hours later in the Gold championship against current third-ranked West Texas A&M, she put down 16 kills and had 17 digs.
Cammillucci is the first Silversword to earn the AVCA national honor.
Chaminade, ranked No. 7 in the AVCA Division II Poll, is back at home for the first time since Aug. 29, opening Pacific West Conference action Thursday against conference newcomer Menlo. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
