Beach Volleyball Defeats HPU

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team improved to 2-0 on Thursday with a 4-1 win over Hawai'i Pacific University (0-2) at Hunakai Park.
 
The duo of Letizia Cammillucci (Padova, Italy/San Jose State/Liceo Amedeo di Savoia Duca D'asosta HS) and Anna Stucchi (Roncello, Italy/Santa Clara University/I.I.S. Ezio Vanoni HS) opened the day with a 21-4, 21-11 win in Flight 3. The Silverswords' No. 1 duo of Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane) and Grace Talpash (Temecula, Calif./University of Oklahoma/Great Oak HS) staved off the Sharks' duo of Kate Allen and Dana Nyugen, 21-13 and 22-20.
 
The 'Swords clinched the match win as their Flight 2 team of Nanna Inoue (Kula, Maui, Hawai'i/Tyler JC/King Kekaulike HS) and Mahala Ka'apuni (Hilo, Hawai'i/Alaska Anchorage/Hilo HS) defeated Lindsey Tapp and Riley Komo, 21-13, 21-8.
 
Sina Bauer (Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany/Maximillian-von-Montgelas Gymnasium Vilsbiburg) and Kendall Rios (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) gave Chaminade its fourth win of the day by a 21-18, 21-11 score in Flight 5.
 
The Silverswords are next in action at the University of Hawai'i Manoa's Heineken Queens Cup at Queens Beach in Waikiki on Thursday, March 6. They will face Tulane at 9:45 a.m. followed by Washington at 12:15 p.m.
