HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team opened Year 2 of the program on Friday, defeating fellow second-year program Hawai'i Pacific University at Hunakai Park b a 4-1 count.
Letizia Cammillucci (Padova, Italy/San Jose State/Liceo Amedeo di Savoia Duca D'asosta HS) and
Anna Stucchi (Roncello, Italy/Santa Clara University/I.I.S. Ezio Vanoni HS), the Silverswords' Italian duo got the Silverswords' first match win in Flight 3, one of which included a 21-5 final.
The 'Swords also won the fifth pairing while
Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane) and
Grace Talpash (Temecula, Calif./University of Oklahoma/Great Oak HS) clinched the match win at Flight 2.
The most thrilling match was at No. 1 when
Mahala Ka'apuni (Hilo, Hawai'i/Alaska Anchorage/Hilo HS) and
Kanoelehua Misipeka (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Liberty North, Mo.) defeated the Sharks' Kate Allen and Dana Nyugen in three sets.
The two teams also played a sixth flight – an exhibition – with
Mykelle Brainard (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge) and
Sina Bauer (Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany/Maximillian-von-Montgelas Gymnasium Vilsbiburg) getting the dub.
The 'Swords' next match will be back at Hunakai Park on Thursday, Feb. 27 with a rematch against HPU.
