HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team on Saturday wrapped up the Heineken Queen's Cup with a 5-0 defeat to host University of Hawai'i under cloudy and sometimes rainy conditions at Queen's Beach in Waikiki.
The Silverswords fell to 2-4 on the season while the Rainbow Wahine, ranked No. 15 in the AVCA Poll, is 5-7.
The 'Swords most competitive match came at the fourth pairing with the duo of
Tabby Allen (Leander, Texas/Rouse) and
Kanoelehua Misipeka (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Liberty North, Mo.) who took the Rainbow Wahine team of Kendall Kaelin and Sydney Amiatu to a 21-15, 21-19 decision, nearly forcing a third set in their match.
Chaminade's No. 3 pairing,
Letizia Cammillucci (Padova, Italy/San Jose State/Liceo Amedeo di Savoia Duca D'asosta HS) and
Anna Stucchi (Roncello, Italy/Santa Clara University/I.I.S. Ezio Vanoni HS), posted 15 points in both sets against Jesse Mann and Jasmine Wandeler.
The 'Swords' No. 1 duo of the match saw
Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane) and
Grace Talpash (Temecula, Calif./University of Oklahoma/Great Oak HS) rebound from a disappointing first-set defeat by pushing UH's Sarah Burton and Caprice Lorenzo to a 21-17 decision.
The Silverswords lost all four matches in the Queen's Cup but all came at the hands of more experienced teams who are at the Division I level in other sports.
Chaminade is next in action on Tuesday when they face the University of San Francisco at Hunakai Park.
