LONG BEACH, Calif. – A record 147 Chaminade University student-athletes were named Wednesday to the 2024-25 Academic All-Pacific West Conference Teams.
The Silverswords' total was actually 152 with five dual sport athletes (
Selena Buttery and
Sameera Elmasri, women's basketball/tennis;
Sebastian Castro,
Jacob Mantiply and
Mac Zawistoski; baseball/men's cross country). The total broke the previous mark of 145 set last season.
Baseball posted the most student-athletes on the academic all-conference team with 36. Women's soccer followed with 20 and men's soccer at 19.
Men's cross country had the highest ratio of rostered student-athletes with all six members earning academic all-conference kudos. For teams with 10 or more student-athletes, women's basketball had the highest ratio with 93 percent (13 of 14 on the roster) making the academic squad.
Twenty-two 'Swords had 4.00 grade-point averages.
A record-2,728 student-athletes in the PacWest were named to the all-academic team among the 15 sports the conference sponsors.
To be eligible for Academic All-PacWest honors, student-athletes must have attended a minimum two semesters at their current institution, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and are eligible for participation or practice in their respective sport.
