WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Former Chaminade University first baseman Safea Villaruz-Mauai (Hilo, Hawai'i/BYU/Waiakea HS) has signed with the Williamsport Crosscutters of the MLB Draft League.

In his lone season with the Silverswords, Villaruz-Mauai, who reported to Williamsport over the weekend, earned All-Pacific West Conference Third Team honors after slashing .323/.428/.582 in 2025. He led the 'Swords in homers with 11, which included three grand slams, and 43 RBI.

The MLB Draft League is currently in its second-half format where players are professionals who have exhausted their amateur status. The first half of the league is a professional/amateur hybrid where non-pros play as a showcase leading up to that season's MLB Draft.

Villaruz-Mauai joins former Hawai'i Pacific University outfielder Bronson Rivera as players with Hawai'i ties in MLB Draft League rosters for the second half of its season. Rivera is with the Fredrick Keys.
