CLEVELAND – Chaminade University Athletics had a record-85 student-athletes named to the Division 2 Athletic Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievements Awards.
The department actually posted 89 awardees but four Silverswords were named twice as dual-sport athletes.
The number shattered the previous record of 63 set last season.
Peter Jan Ramos (men's cross country) was named for the fourth time, thanks to a season-of-competition waiver that restored a season of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic which affected the 2021 season.
Three-time D2 ADA honorees include
Leila-Jayne Casison (women's cross country),
Taryn Fujioka (softball),
Bailey Jacobsen (softball),
Gracie Knowd (women's soccer),
Kameron Ng (men's basketball) and
Clara Slate-Liu (women's soccer).
More than 20,000 student-athletes (22,756) were honored with the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, the highest in the history of the program. The Pacific West Conference had 1,272 student-athletes on the list, one of eight Division II conferences nationally with over 1,000.
To be recognized for the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, a school's athletics director must be a dues-paying member of the D2 ADA. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale, have attended a minimum two years or four semesters of college coursework; and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her academic year.
