LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Poll, as voted by the conference coaches.
The Silverswords received 96 points in the poll. Point Loma, the two-time defending PacWest champion, was selected to three-peat, receiving 165 points and nine first-place votes. CUI was picked as the runner-up with 150 points and two first-place votes while the University of Hawai'i Hilo was just a shade behind with 148 points while also getting a pair of top votes.
Azusa Pacific and Westmont rounded out the top five.
Chaminade, which has posted a record five straight winning seasons, returns 15 players from last year's squad that went 6-5-5 and 5-3-3 in the PacWest, good enough for a sixth-place finish.
The Silverswords open their season on Sunday, Sept. 7 against Chico State, their first of two straight matches in Hilo. They will also face Westminster of Utah on Sept. 11.
The 'Swords make their home debut on Saturday, Sept. 20 against UH Hilo.
