AIEA, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team shot an 8-over-par 296 in Sunday's final round to capture the Hawai'i Tri-Match at the par-72 Pearl at Kalauao course, the team's first win in over two years while freshman
Dale Swartwood (San Diego/Clairemont) continued the impressive start to his collegiate career by capturing the tournament's individual title.
The Silverswords posted a 36-hole total of 9-over 585, winning by nine shots over host Hawai'i Pacific University and 20 over the University of Hawai'i Hilo in a tournament that featured all three of the local Division II institutions. It was their first tournament title since winning the national championship at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship in May 2024.
Swartwood, who set two single-round school records in Saturday's first round at 5-under, fired a final-round 1-over 73 to win the tri-match by two shots over HPU's Kyle Krupp. His 5-under 139 total set yet another school record for a 36-hole span, besting the previous mark set by Michael Milton by one shot at the 2017 Pacific West Conference Championships at the Turtle Bay Fazio Course.
Swartwood had a rough first six holes with four bogeys where he briefly lost the lead and trailed by two shots before birdies on holes 5 and 7, combined with two Krupp bogeys before the turn, put him back in the lead. He played even golf in the back-nine to ensure Chaminade's first medalist honor since Jeren Nishimoto and Desmond Mello were co-champions in a dual match against HPU in November 2020, which was also at the same course.
Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) finished fourth at 3-over 147 while
Marty Lundberg (Sacramento, Calif./Rio Americano) posted the second round's best score with an even-par, aided by a birdie on the 15th and an eagle on the par-5 17th, enabling him to finish at 7-over 151.
Chance Wilson (Princeville, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Enlightium Academy) shot plus-7 in the final round to put him into the tri-match's top-10 with a ninth-place finish at 9-over and
Riley Born (Las Vegas/Odyssey) finished at 11-over after a 2-over in the final 18 holes.
The 'Swords' playing as individuals were
Brock Wright (Gilbert, Ariz./Perry) who totaled 162,
Tanner Capik (Los Angeles/Beverly Hills) at 165 and
A.J. Dahlk (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) at 176.
The Silverswords are next in action at the Punahele Jerky Company Inc. Invitational (formerly known as the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate) on Monday, Oct. 26 at the Mauna Lani Golf Course in Kamuela on the Big Island.
