HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team made it three straight to open the season, defeating Hawai'i Pacific University, 4-1, at Hunakai Park.
The Silverswords improved to 3-0 on the season while the Sharks fell to 0-3.
HPU took the first match in Doubles 1 before CUH took the next two flights.
Sina Bauer (Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany/Maximillian-von-Montgelas Gymnasium Vilsbiburg) and
Audrah Johnson (Nampa, Idaho/Utah State University/Nampa HS) captured Doubles 2 to square the match, then
Lillie Hinton (Spicewood, Texas/Lake Travis) and
Lilinoe Paschoal (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Baldwin) gave the 'Swords the lead in Flight 4. Both teams won via sweeps.
Chaminade then clinched the match win in Flight 3 when
Aliya Hofherr-Sanders (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hanalani) and
Malena Mihalik (Santa Fe, Argentina/San Eugenio) outlasted Jordyn McCutcheon and Peyton McBride in three sets, 21-16, 19-21, 15-11.
Anna Karasinska (Nowa Ruda, Poland/Il Licem Ogolnoksztalcase IM) and
Allison Panter (Denver, Colo./Portland State University/Denver School of Science and Technology HS) won their duo match in the fifth spot to secure the win.
Shannon Sheehy (Phoenix, Ariz./University of San Francisco/Sandra Day O'Connor HS) and
Alizaysha Sopi (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Tennessee State University/Kapolei HS) won their non-counting exhibition match win a 21-9, 21-12 sweep over Raiatea Campbell and Ally Hobbs.
The Silverswords and Sharks face each other again on Thursday at Hunakai Park, a makeup of Monday's postponed match due to the weather. First doubles action begins at noon.
