HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team on Tuesday faced off against McKendree University in a rematch of Monday's meeting.
In rainy conditions that worsened as the match progressed, the Silverswords fell 4-1 to the Bearcats, a fellow Division II institution from Lebanon, Illinois which is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
A day after McKendree got the win after the fourth overall match, the Bearcats took the first three pairings to clinch the match.
The 'Swords' lone win of the afternoon came at the top spot when
Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane) and
Kanoelehua Misipeka (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Liberty North, Mo.) defeated Brooke Junker and Natalie Witt in straight sets, 21-13 and 21-18.
Anna Karasinska (Nowa Ruda, Poland/Il Licem Ogolnoksztalcase IM) and
Malena Mihalik (Santa Fe, Argentina/San Eugenio) rallied from a set down in the No. 3 Flight before falling in the deciding set, 21-15, 18-21, 15-10, to Amber Williams and Abby Hickman.
The other pairing to go the distance was
Reina Krueger (Fort Collins, Colo./Liberty Commons) and
Sina Bauer (Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany/Maximillian-von-Montgelas Gymnasium Vilsbiburg) at No. 2. Krueger and Bauer took the first set against Samantha Coe and Audrey Bennett before the McKendree duo won the final two sets in the 21-13, 21-15, 15-10 decision.
The Silverswords will take the next three weeks off and return to action on Friday, April 19 in two matches against Santa Clara and Oregon at Queen's Beach.
