HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the second day of the Heineken Queens Cup on Saturday, falling in identical 5-0 scores to the University of North Carolina Wilmington and San Jose State.
The Silverswords fell to 4-8 on the season.
Match 1: UNCW 5, CUH 0
The 'Swords best pairing of the match came in the No. 5 spot with
Aliya Hofherr-Sanders (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hanalani) and
DeLaney Poling (Gilbert, Ariz./Park University/Perry HS) giving the Skyhawks' duo of Keegan Engebretson and Courtney Jensen a run before falling 21-16, 21-19.
Match 2: SJSU 5, CUH 0
In their afternoon match, Chaminade nearly pulled out a win in Flight 2 with
Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane) and
Kanoelehua Misipeka (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Liberty North, Mo.) taking the Spartans' Rio Thomas and Randi Reeves to a third set before falling 21-23, 21-9, 15-12.
Audrah Johnson (Nampa, Idaho/Utah State University/Nampa HS) and
Ma'ila Stephens (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Siena College/Mililani HS) also had a competitive match at the third spot in a 21-13, 21-16 defeat.
The Silverswords wrap up the Queens Cup on Saturday with an 11 a.m. match vs. Saint Mary's followed by Pepperdine at 1:30 p.m.
