HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team wrapped up the Heineken Queens Cup Saturday against two more high quality opponents.
The Silverswords dropped both matches on the final day with dual 5-0 losses to Saint Mary's and Pepperdine at Queen's Beach in Waikiki.
The 'Swords, who faced five Division I foes and an experienced Division II member during the three-day event, fell to 4-10.
Match 1: SMC 5, CUH 0
The 'Swords top tandem of
Beele Wieczorek (Wiesbaden, Germany/Elly-Heuss School) and
Sina Bauer (Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany/Maximillian-von-Montgelas Gymnasium Vilsbiburg) had 33 combined points in their match, the most by the team in the match.
Their Flight 5 squad of
Anna Karasinska (Nowa Ruda, Poland/Il Licem Ogolnoksztalcase IM) and
Malena Mihalik (Santa Fe, Argentina/San Eugenio) managed 27 total.
Match 2: Pepp 5, CUH 0
Chaminade put together two thrilling sets against the Waves. At the No. 1 flight, Wieczorek and Bauer dropped the first set to Emma Eden and Michaela Cyrani then nearly took the second with the match going into extra points before falling 24-22.
In the No. 5 pairing,
DeLaney Poling (Gilbert, Ariz./Park University/Perry HS) and
Shannon Sheehy (Phoenix, Ariz./University of San Francisco/Sandra Day O'Connor HS) sent their opponents into extra points with a chance to win the first set but ended up falling, 22-20, then lost the second, 21-16.
The Silverswords will take a week off then return to action with a pair of matches with fellow Division II member McKendree University on Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17 at Queens Beach.
