HONOLULU – With the threat of heavy rain and powerful winds from the approaching Kona Low storm system which is prompting the closure of the Chaminade University campus and all State of Hawai'i departments on Friday, all Silversword athletic events scheduled for that day have either been postponed or canceled.
The Chaminade softball team's doubleheader against Menlo College at Silversword Field has been postponed until Sunday as the State of Hawai'i has closed Sand Island Park on Friday. Sunday's times remain at noon and 2:30 p.m. while Saturday's twin bill remains as scheduled.
Meanwhile, the Silversword beach volleyball matches against Oregon and Santa Clara scheduled for Queen's Beach in Waikiki have been canceled due to the storm. Chaminade's Saturday match against 16th-ranked University of Hawai'i at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on the UH campus has also been canceled. All three matches will not be made up.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch until Friday evening for the island of O'ahu while a high wind warning is in effect for the island until Friday morning.
