8/23/2026 10:00:00 AM

HONOLULU – After nearly three weeks of practicing mainly against each other, the Chaminade University men's soccer team will finally get their official season underway on Saturday when they meet in-state rival University of Hawai'i Hilo at Saint Louis Field at 2:30 p.m.

The Silverswords will look to continue the momentum after finishing their final four games in 2025 with two wins and a draw.

Head coach Joshua Woodard, in his fifth year with the program, returns six 'Swords who made at least 10 starts. Two of them –forwards Kawainui Anderson (Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) and Vlad Tomutiu (Belmont, Calif./Cañada College/Carlmont HS) – both started 13 games a year ago.

The Silverswords also return goalkeeper Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS), who has 25 starts at the net heading into his final year of athletic eligibility.

Also back is forward Caleb Texeira (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui), who had two goals last year.

Following this Saturday's opener, the Silverswords, who were picked to finish ninth in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll released last Friday, will play the first of two non-conference matches against in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific University at Waipio Soccer Peninsula on Sept. 1, then return home for first-ever meeting against the University of Texas at Dallas on Sunday, Sept. 6.

The 'Swords will then make their first mainland non-conference trip since 2022 with matches at Saint Martin's University on Sept. 10 and Western Oregon University two days later. They wrap up non-conference action with their second meeting at HPU.

CUH will have a road-heavy start to PacWest action with five straight road matches before ending their season with four straight home games including the finale against HPU on the Saint Louis Field pitch on Saturday, Oct. 31.
