Honolulu, HI- Tonight in McCabe Gym t he Silverswords of Chaminade University took on the Grand Canyon University got swept tonight in three straight sets. (25-22, 25-22, 25-16). This was the second meeting between the two teams this year; GCU took the first match 3 to 1.
Despite losing the match, CUH showed really good things many times through out the three sets; they played well, passed well and fought hard all night long. Although, the score doesn't reflect the team's determination and tenacity to win, the Silversword Chaminade Volleyball faithful can be proud of how the women played tonight. They never gave up.
Freshmen Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) had 11 kills and 15 digs tonight against GCU. Junior setter Tanya Alvino (Brentwood, CA/Liberty) had 27 assists to go along with 4 digs for CUH.
The Swords won the dig battle 67- 60. Chaminade lost the kill battle 40 -34. The Silverswords and Antelopes each had a team total of 34 assists tonight.
Grand Canyon was led by Dana Edington, she had 9 kills and a hitting percentage of nearly 26%.
With the loss, Chaminade falls to 4-17 overall, while Grand Canyon improves their record to 13 -8 overall on the year. The Swords are back in action next week Tuesday, Oct. 20th , when they battle the Red Storm of Dixie State University. First serve is set for 7:00 PM HT in McCabe Gym.
