CUH WSB: Swords Fall to HPU 2 to 0 and 13 to 0

Chelsi Walls pitches 9.1 Innings in two games

Chelsi Walls

Waipahu, HI-   The Silversowrds came out tonight and played great softball the first game and fell to Hawaii Pacific 2 to 0, they struggled in the second game and lost by way of the mercy rule, 13 to 0.  Chelsi Walls pitched 9.1 innings in the two games.

Game # 1- The first game the Swords played well, they had 3 total hits to HPU's 5. Chelsi Walls pitched all 7 innings and faced 33 batters. She walked 7 batters and gave up two earned runs. Chaminade did not give up those runs until the Top of the 4th inning. HPU came on really strong and batted the ball really well, they left 3 runners on base, thanks to solid defensive play those runners did not score. Chaminade fought hard until the end, although in the end they fell to the Seawarriors.

Game # 2 – The second game proved to a rough go around for the Swords. In just two innings they gave up 5 runs. Kasy'e Lalau started the game and gave up 7 earned runs on 14 batters faced. Angel Mahaulu came in relief and also gave up 3 earned runs. She gave up a grand slam in the third inning which proved to be the icing on the cake as the Swords were unable to recover. The grand slam fly ball seemed to carry in the air as it eventually fell over the right field fence. Giving HPU the lead by 10 runs on their way to the 13 to 0 shut out.

The Swords bats really struggled in the second game and as they had one hit, thanks in part to Angel Mahaulu single in the bottom of the 1st inning. Though Chaminade fell 13 to 0 they never gave up and battled HPU until the very last pitch in the bottom of the 5th inning.

With the loss, CUH moves to 0-10 overall and 0-1 in the Pac West Conference, while Hawaii Pacific moves to 11-1 on the year and 2-0 in the Pac West Conference. The Swords travel to Laie, HI and will face BYU-Hawaii. Game time is set 1:00 PM HST on February 25th, this game is a double header.
