CUH WSOC: Swords Lose Hard Fought Match at GCU 1-0

Minor holds back ‘Lopes attack, stops 10 shots in loss

PHOENIX, AZ- Chaminade dropped a competitive match this evening to Grand Canyon by a score of 1-0 in Pac West action.
 
The only tally was a goal by Cierra Valdez in the 39th minute as the Lopes went into the half with a 1-0 lead. CUH was undaunted as freshman Shayla Hosaka (Kaneohe, HI/ Castle HS) forced a save by GCU goalkeeper Stephanie Phillips in the 64th minute.   
 
Chaminade senior goalkeeper Marissa Minor (Captain Cook, HI/Konawaena HS) stopped ten Antelope shots on goal on the evening. Her impressive stops kept the Swords in the match for the full ninety minutes. Minor saved four shots in the final 14 minutes as GCU took nine shots in an unsuccessful effort to pull away from the Swords.      
 
CUH was out-shot 25-2 on the match. 
 
With the loss, the Swords conclude the season at 2-14 (2-12 PWC) overall. Grand Canyon improves to 11-5-1 (9-4-1 PWC).
