CUH WVB: UH-Hilo Corrals Swords in Three Sets

Gantt leads with 12 kills

HILO, HI- Facing an undefeated UH-Hilo squad in UHH Gymnasium for the second night in a row, the Swords fell to the Vulcans 25-27, 19-25 and 22-25.

 Chaminade fell in three, but didn't go down without a fight.  The Swords were serving for the set late in the first after a service ace by sophomore Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life).  Hilo managed to score the next three points to win the set 27-25.  After falling in the second set, CUH battled the Vulcans throughout the third, trailing by only one at 23-22 late in the final set before falling. 

 Senior Poerava Gantt (Kapaa, HI/Kapaa) shined for Chaminade, contributing 12 kills on a red-hot .345 hitting percentage.  Powell was also a factor for CUH, with 11 kills on a .290 hitting percentage.  

 Junior Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) had 5 kills and 10 digs in defeat for Chaminade.  Senior setter Kristina Donathan (Honolulu, HI/St. Andrew's Priory) contributed 18 assists and 11 digs, while senior Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) added 10 digs for CUH.   

 The Swords and Vulcans were identical in digs with 50 apiece.  CUH hit .193 on the match, while UHH hit .289. 

 The Vulcans were led by Hillary Hurley with 14 kills on a .152 hitting percentage.  Although Hurley still led UH-Hilo in kills, the All PacWest performer had hit .386 on Friday night against the Swords.

 The Swords fall to 1-7 with the loss. UH-Hilo improves to 6-0.  Chaminade is back in action on September 17th at BYU-Hawaii in the Cannon Activities Center. First serve is set for 7:00 PM HT.
