HONOLULU, HI- Chaminade took on the Marauders of the University of Mary this morning at St. Louis Field in a very competitive match, falling 2-1 in overtime.
The two teams competed throughout the first half with no one gaining an advantage and after 45 minutes the score was still 0-0. Early in the second half, Mary's Jessica Curl got the Marauders on the board with a goal in the 47th minute.
As the match progressed, Mary continued to create chances but Chaminade freshman
Kainoa Makua (Kailua, HI/Kalaheo) kept Mary at bay. Makua finished the day with 12 saves.
With less than ten minutes to play in regulation time, Chaminade's assertiveness paid off. Chaminade sophomore
Amber Bonifacio (Ewa Beach, HI/Moanalua) knotted the game up at 1-1 with her first goal of the season.
Mary won the match in overtime with a golden goal from Alex Bachman-Williams in the 96th minute of action.
The Swords were out-shot 20-6 on the match.
With the loss, the Swords move to 0-2. Mary improves to 1-1-1. Chaminade is back in action on September 10th in Laie, HI. The Swords face BYU-Hawaii at 12:30 PM HT.
