Box Score HONOLULU, HI- Chaminade lost a tough match to Hawaii Pacific in three sets this evening at St. Andrew's Priory by scores of 23-25, 20-25 and 18-25.
Although the match was a sweep, Chaminade played HPU evenly in many parts of tonight's contest.
CUH played well in the first set, leading 18-15 late in the set. HPU responded to regain the lead before a kill by
Kim Spring (Bern, Switzerland/ Feusi Bildungszentrum and Feusi Sportschule) had the set tied at 23-23. The Sea Warriors rallied to win the set 25-23.
The Swords also led in the second set, owning a 13-10 lead midway through the set after a kill by freshman setter
Valentina Bevilacqua (Vacallo, Switz./Scuola Cantonale di Comm. Bellinzona). Chaminade could not hold off an HPU rally as the Sea Warriors went on a 9-3 run and didn't look back to earn the second set win, 25-20.
The Sea Warriors won the third set 25-18 to complete the sweep.
Freshman
Kim Spring led Chaminade with 13 kills while freshman
Brenda Walker (Honolulu, HI/McKinley) led the Swords with 14 digs. HPU out-dug CUH 49-42 on the match.
Hawaii Pacific was led by Amanda Moriarty and Kasey Thompson with11 kills each.
Coach Kabalis commented on the match: "It was a disappointing loss for us tonight. We came out with some fire in the first set, but failed to execute the last points of the game. Going into the second and third game, we made too many errors and did not capitalize on key plays. Statistically, we were right there, so minimizing our errors will help us get over this hump."
The Swords fall to 6-14, 3-9 PWC with the defeat. Hawaii Pacific moves to 10-7, 4-5 PWC. Chaminade takes on Hawaii-Hilo at UHH Gym on October 27
th. First serve is set for 7:00 PM HT.
