HILO, Hawai'i - The Chaminade men's and women's cross country team held its first races outside of O'ahu Saturday, competing at the UH-Hilo Invitational at the Naniloa Volcanoes Golf Course.
The Silversword men finished third with 59 points, behind team winner BYU-Hawai'i (20) and Hawai'i Pacific (48). Meanwhile, the Chaminade women came in fifth with 135 points. The Seasiders also captured the women's title with 29 points.
Individually, the Swords'
Jorge Cisneros continued to shine, coming in second overall in the 5k men's race in a time of 16:06, only three seconds behind BYUH's Kevin Miller. It's Cisnero's third consecutive top-5 finish of the season. In last year's Hilo Invitational, Cisneros also finished second.
Emmanuel Jimenez was the second Swords' harrier to break the finish line of the men's race with a time of 17:27.
Patrick Cantor-Martinez was next at 19:56.
On the women's side,
Jessica Wences was the top Lady Sword finisher of the 5k race, coming in at a time of 21:35. Three CUH harriers finished within 14 seconds of each other with
Ellissa Bio coming in at 23:14 as the second Sword to cross, followed by
Shannon Whener at 23:22 and
Laura Spiegel at 23:28.
Both Chaminade men and women will compete in their final regular season races at the BYUH Invitational next Saturday before heading to Novato, Calif., for the Pacific West Conference Championships on Nov. 2.
