CUH Softball: Swords Split Doubleheader with the Clan of Simon Fraser 6-5 and 0-8 (5 inn.)

Strom-Okimoto leads way for Chaminade with three hits over two games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPIO, HI –Chaminade opened the home slate today against Simon Fraser at Central Oahu Regional Park, splitting with The Clan in an afternoon/evening doubleheader 6-5 and 0-8.
 
The Swords got on the board in the bottom of the first in game one as two Chaminade singles by seniors Kori Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) and Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) allowed sophomore Elia Lizarraga (Torrance, CA / Narbonne) to score on a wild pitch as the Swords went up 1-0 after one.
 
Elia Lizarraga was heard from again in the third inning, doubling and driving in a run to extend the Silverswords lead to 2-0.  Chaminade scored another run on a SFU error and led 3-0 after three innings. 
 
SFU's Mackenzie Bender responded with a three-run homerun in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.  The Swords Aja Keyes (Kaneohe, HI/Lutheran) singled in Rayna Strom-Okimoto in the bottom of the fifth and CUH regained the lead 4-3. The Clan responded in the sixth inning with two runs and took the lead by one run, 5-4.
 
The Swords came back and won game one in the seventh as what looked to be a hard hit fly out by Aja Keyes was mishandled and two runs scored, giving Chaminade the hard-earned 6-5 win.
 
Kaitlyn Watanabe earned the victory in relief action, giving up two earned runs in two innings for CUH.  Cara Lukawesky took the loss in the circle for Simon Fraser. 
 
The Clan got the scoring going in game two, as Kaitlyn Cameron's solo homerun gave SFU a 1-0 run thru one inning.  Simon Fraser added two more runs in the second inning via an Alex Baylak homerun to lead 3-0.  The Swords did not score in the second or third inning and SFU added four runs on four hits, including a Danielle Raison solo homerun to make it 7-0. Another solo homerun by Raison on the fifth inning made the score 8-0 Simon Fraser heading into the bottom of the fifth.  The Clan held on for an 8-0 win in five innings. Kelsey Hawkins earned the shutout win for SFU.
 
Sophomore pitcher Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin High) took the loss for CUH in game two, giving up five runs in three innings of action. 
 
Chaminade is back in action for a doubleheader against BYU-Hawaii tomorrow, February 16th in Laie, HI.  First pitch is set for 12:00 PM HT.  The Swords move to 1-3, 0-0 in PWC with the split, while Simon Fraser moves to 3-6 overall.
