HILO, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University cross country team wrapped up the 2019 regular season Saturday at the Hawai'i Hilo Invitational held at the Grand Naniloa Golf Course.
In the men's 8-kilometer race, the Silverswords received 36 points, their best point total in their three head-to-head races against Hawai'i Pacific University this season. HPU finished with 23 points.
Freshman
Peyton Oshiro (Honolulu/Hawai'i Baptist Academy) achieved personal bests with a fourth-place overall finish and a finishing time of 28:51.9, nearly two minutes better than his previous fastest time set at the Chaminade Invitational 8-k on Sept. 14.
Beau Larsen (Papillion, Neb./Daniel J. Gross Catholic) finished sixth overall, clocking a time of 31:03.8. He was followed by
Elijah Bernardo-Flores (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehamameha-Kapalama) who finished in 31:45.4.
Joseph Yoakum (Gibraltar, Mich./Wayne State Univ./Carlson HS) completed the course in 33:01.4, followed by Big Island native
Josiah Rodrigues (Honoka'a, Hawai'i/Honoka'a) at 33:39.6 and
Matthew Schmidt (Hanalei, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Technology Academy) at 33:41.5.
HPU's Lukas Motschmann was the race winner, his fourth medalist finish this season.
In the women's race, extended to a 6-k to conform to the upcoming conference championship distance, the Silverswords finished a close third to UH Hilo, compiling 58 points to the Vulcans' 56. HPU was the meet winner with 23 points.
Alena Albertson (Austin, Texas/Cedar Park) outpaced UH Hilo's Olivia Jarvis by one second (24:02.9) to finish as the runner-up, the highest finish by a Chaminade runner since Emily Oschner won the UH Hilo Invite in 2012. HPU's Robyn Kaltenbrunn was the race's winner at 22:58.4.
Olivia Mariucci (Templeton, Calif./Templeton) was the 'Swords' No. 2 finisher, placing ninth overall at 25:35.8 and
Eri Leong (Las Vegas/SECTA) had her first career top-10 overall finish, clocking a time of 26:13.7.
Rounding out the 'Swords squad were
Riley Hallman (Renner, S.D./Tri-Valley) at 28:45.2,
Montserrat Lanfranco (Honolulu/Roosevelt) at 29:10.9 and
Alicia Dugan (Renton, Wash./Peninsula College/Kentridge HS) at 30:59.6.
The Silverswords will wrap up the season on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Pacific West Conference Championships in Fullerton, Calif.
