Wong, Takata Earn Weekly PacWest Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University women's soccer players Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) and Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) have been named the Pacific West Conference Defender and Freshman of the Week, respectively.

Wong, a senior defender, helped play a pivotal role in the Silverswords' matches against Hawai'i Hilo and Notre Dame de Namur over the weekend. After a nil-nil draw against the Vulcans on Friday, she helped the 'Swords secure their historic first-ever win Sunday over NDNU by playing stellar defense and also assisted on the game-tying goal in Chaminade's 2-1 win over the Argonauts. Not only was it Wong's first career assist, she also extended her consecutive minutes streak to 2,403. She has not been subbed out of a game since Oct. 9, 2017, and has started 25 consecutive matches without being removed for a breather.

The weekend was also a set of firsts for Takata. The freshman goalkeeper recorded her first career clean sheet in the draw against UH Hilo then picked up her first career win against NDNU. She totaled 18 saves and leads the PacWest in saves at 7.6 per game.

Point Loma's Abbi Swanson earned the conference's Player of the Week award.

The Silverswords face long-time rival Hawai'i Pacific University on Saturday at Saint Louis Field. Unlike the Sept. 26 meeting in Waipahu which ended in a 2-2 draw, this is a conference game and will count in the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge standings. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
