Tyler Cartaino (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) was named Thursday to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic Division II All-District 8
® Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The accounting major carries a cumulative 3.836 grade point average. On the court, the redshirt junior is having a stellar season, averaging 17.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He is also leads the Pacific West Conference in field goal percentage at 59.8 percent per game which is tied for 20th nationally.
Cartaino is on an impressive run as of late. He has seven consecutive 20-point games and has shot over 60 percent from the floor in 11 of his last 12. Tuesday at Azusa Pacific, Cartaino scored all 22 of his points in the second half to help the Silverswords erase a 19-point second-half deficit to down the Cougars and clinch a spot in the PacWest Tournament.
District 8 encompasses Division II's west coast and includes the PacWest, California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). He and Point Loma's Tanner Nelson are PacWest student-athletes represented on the team.
Cartaino is now eligible for Google Cloud Academic All-America
® consideration which will be announced in mid-March.
