AUSTIN, Texas – Chaminade University forward/guard
Tyler Cartaino (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) on Tuesday was named to the Google Cloud Division II Academic All-America
® Second Team as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 6-foot-6 redshirt junior was a Pacific West Conference First Team selection, averaging 17.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while leading the conference in field goal percentage at 59.2 percent which also ranks 18th in Division II. He was also named to the PacWest All-Tournament Team and helped guide the 23-7 Silverswords to their first NCAA West Regional berth since 2014.
In the classroom, Cartaino, an accounting major, carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.836.
Cartaino is the second Silversword student-athlete this academic year to be named an Academic All-American
®. Earlier this year,
Alyssa Tanigawa (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) of women's soccer was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America
® Third Team.
Cartaino is the fourth Chaminade student-athlete recognized as a Google Cloud Academic All-American
®. Along with Tanigawa,
Kelly Costello of women's basketball was a second team honoree in 2012 while
Amber Manuel of softball was named to the third team in 2016.
The Division II Academic All-America
® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the rewards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America
® teams program.
