WAHIAWA, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team completed a rare two-events-in-one-day dual match against Hawai'i Pacific University on Monday at the par-72 Leilehua Golf Course.
The Sharks bettered the Silverswords, 284-318, completing a sweep of both 18-hole matches after capturing the morning's first 18 at Mililani Golf Course a few miles down the road.
Jeren Nishimoto (Honolulu/Kaiser) posted the 'Swords' best score of the match with a 2-over-par 74, three shots off the lead.
HPU had quad-medalist honors with Zach Kwan, Sirasit Prateepmongkol, Chad Vander Dussen and Masato Yoshitsugu each shooting 1-under 71s. For Prateepmongkol and Vander Dussen, it was their second medalist finishes of the day, having shared first-place honors in the morning match at Mililani.
Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Moanalua HS) finished two shots behind Nishimoto at 4-over 76 while
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) shot an 82.
Patrick Tran (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Capistrano Connections Academy) and
Curtis Coburn (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) shot 86 and 103, respectively.
HPU's win gave the dual match season series win over Chaminade, having won three of the four meetings this season including non-championship fall matches. However none of the dual matches count towards the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge which will be determined by order of finish at the PacWest Championships which will be held later this month in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
The dual matches for the 'Swords also served as a final tune-up before the conference tournament.
