Young, Stockslager Named HPH Athletes of Week

Chaminade University men's basketball player Roman Young (Wichita, Kan./Mineral Area College/Sunrise Christian Academy) and softball player Madelyn Stockslager (Torrance, Calif./South) are the Hawai'i Pacific Health Silverswords Athletes of the Week for games between Feb. 24 and March 1.

Young helped the Silverswords finish the regular season with wins over Hawai'i Pacific and Hawai'i Hilo to help them move up to the No. 3 seed in this week's Pacific West Conference Tournament. The redshirt junior totaled 18 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals during the week. Young made several big shots to help the 'Swords pull away in the second half against HPU. He was on the giving end against UH Hilo, dishing out three assists during a key four-minute span to help Chaminade stifle a Vulcans' rally midway through the second half.

Stockslager was brilliant in her start against 10th-ranked Concordia. The junior scattered six hits with four strikeouts in her complete-game effort She induced several weak inning-ending ground and fly balls in their 1-0 loss to the Eagles and matched zeros on the scoreboard against CUI's All-American Callie Nunes. The only run she allowed was unearned which was scored on an error.
