HONOLULU – Though the season ended on Saturday, the victories keep rolling in for the Chaminade University women's soccer team.
Less than 24 hours after clinching at least a share of the Pacific West Conference Hawai'i Pod title, the Silverswords achieved another milestone on Sunday with a little help from their rivals across town.
Sunday's Hawai'i Pacific University and the University of Hawai'i Hilo match at Saint Louis Field ended with a 2-2 tie to give the 'Swords the outright pod title, their first-ever championship of any sorts.
With six points, the worse that could have happened to Chaminade (1-0-3) was a shared title if UH Hilo had won.
However a draw was just as helpful. Although the Sharks led 2-0 at the half, UH Hilo rallied with two goals in the second half including the equalizer with just three minutes left to play.
The Vulcans (0-0-4) had four points with the Sharks (0-1-2) finishing with two. In a spring season that has been already unusual, of the six women's total combined games, five ended in ties with just the Chaminade-HPU game on Feb. 20 ending with a decision (a 2-1 'Swords win).
